SEXTET

2005

Choreography: Daryl L. Foster

Music: “Favorite Things” by John Coltrane (after Rogers and Hammerstein)

Choreographed in partial fulfillment of Daryl L. Foster’s MFA requirements from the Florida State University, Sextet was originally a contemporary pointe piece set on three women and three men. The work has been restaged as a Contemporary Ballet for six men. In the work, we follow the dalliances of a confused man who looks for the resolution to his dysfunction in the arms of various lovers only to be dejected, and forlorn and left  to resolve it all on his own.

LIFT

2003

Choreography: Daryl L. Foster

Music: Ravi Shanker and Arvo Part

“LIFT” was origninally created for DCDC2 while choreographer Daryl L. Foster was in residence with DCDC assisting  Jawole Zollar in setting a new work for the “Flight Project” a celebration of 100 years of manned flight that had its beginnings in Dayton Ohio in a bicycle shop run by Orville and Wilbur Wright. Foster was inspired to explore the idea of “escaping the gravity of a difficult situation”, but not the gravity that hold us to Earth, but the gravity that hold us to situations and people that no longer serve us. The piece is set to Vedic Chantings by Ravi Shankar, and De Profundus by Arvo Part. The religeous and ceremonial nature of the score gives a ritualistic feel to the dramatic movement, and the tension between the dancers.
